Internet Access
Wireless Broadband:
NTT Communications provides IEEE 802.11g compatible WPA-TKIP secured wireless internet (wi-fi) access aboard MCAS Iwakuni.
Refer to NTT Communications for progress updates, status reports, equipment requirements, and general details about what services are included per account.
The cost per wi-fi access account is $45 per month and includes dial-up access, which is handy for those times when the wi-fi system is down for maintenance or is particularly slow. There is a one-time registration fee of $25.
DSL:
The telephone office, in conjunction with NTT Communications, provides ADSL service to a limited number of subscribers. The wait list depends on the number of people currently waiting for DSL versus the number of people who are giving up their DSL (such as those who are PCSing who had DSL).
You must have Windows XP or later Windows version operating system for ADSL. There is a one-time installation fee of $10, and the monthly fee is $52.65 payable to the base telephone office. Additionally, you will pay a monthly fee of 2,047 yen to the Japanese company off base, payable at any 7-11 or convenience store (there is a 7-11 located at 4-corners out the main gate, and another one if you turn left at the first light out the main gate, located on the left side of the road).
The total cost of the service is approximately $75 a month.
*The ADSL monthly fee is figured by the yen rate.
*ADSL monthly fee will not be prorated (whether you use the service for one day, or the entire month, the cost is the same).
Cable Internet:
Cable Internet service is now available for midrise residents. Please refer to NTT Communications for details.
